Leaving the Inn of Beachcomber head south on Hwy 101. Brookings is located 27 miles south of the Inn of the Beachcomber. Brookings Oregon is the southern most city on the Oregon coast. It is located just six miles North of the California border. It is where the Chetco river meets the Pacific ocean.
Brookings Oregon has some of the warmest days on the Oregon coast and has become somewhat of a retirement community. Itís a good size area, for the Oregon coast and has a around 15,000 permanent residence in itís sphere of influence. Brookings hasa movie theater, a big draw on our end of the coast. I think you have to travel some 110 miles north to Coos Bay for the next movie theater.
That also applies to Fred Meyer, an Oregon staple since before I got here in 1976. If you're traveling to Gold Beach and you need something. It could be a new set of Levis or that piece of clothing that you left in your motel room last night. Freddyís is your place to go for most anything you would find at a Wal-Mart Super Center. The point is Freddyís is pretty cool for getting stuff you might get in the big city.
The coolest thing about Brookings is the drive North to Gold Beach. That little 25 miles has more natural beauty packed into the drive than any other place Iíve ever been. Any way hereís a little bit of the scoop about Brookings if you stumble across this page on the net or you are one of our friends here at the Beachcomber looking for info on the towns around us.

The park has a playground, bathrooms, picnic tables, a covered stage in a natural amphitheater, and softball diamonds. To get to the park turn right at the first street (Constitution Ave) before the Chetco River overpass on Hwy 101; Turn left on North Bank Chetco River rd; Azalea Park is on the right.

There is a small public access fishing pier near the Coast Guard station. It is accessible from Boat Basin Road. You can find a couple of small restaurants and a few shops as well. The harbor is a great place to find fresh seafood.
